A week focused on taking care of oneself in all aspects of health and well-being. 

Week Long Activities

Step Challenge

  • Participants will track their steps throughout the week (Monday, Sept. 23 12:00 a.m. – Friday Sept. 27 11:59 p.m.).
  • Individuals are to use personal tracking devices: smartphone apps, fitness tracking devices and personal pedometers are acceptable.
  • Participants must stop into the Mathy Center or email wellness@viterbo.edu to sign up.
    • If using a app or fitness tracker that resets daily/shows daily steps – nothing needs to be done before beginning.
  • Prizes will be awarded for various benchmarks.
    • 15,000 steps
    • 30,000 steps
    • 50,000 steps
    • 75,000 steps
    • 100,000+ steps
  • Individuals will need to stop by the Mathy Center front desk to collect prizes for each benchmark.

 

Hydration Challenge

  • The goal is for participates to consume at least 64 oz. of fluid per day. 
  • Points will be awarded for progress.
    • One point per day if minimum goal is reached.
    • Bonus 5 points for individuals who consume at least 64 oz. each day for the duration of the challenge.
  • There are two separate challenges for students and university employees.
  • Participants must stop into the Mathy Center or email wellness@viterbo.edu to sign up.
  • Individuals may use a tracking sheet or app (i.e. Plant Nanny) to track fluid intake from Monday through Friday. 
  • What counts:
    • Water
    • Infused, sparkling or flavored water
    • Unsweetened tea
    • Black coffee
  • What does not count:
    • Soda
    • Flavored Teas (added sugars) and coffees
    • Fruit Juices
    • Alcohol
Monday, September 23 Activities
  • Pause for Paws: Join the Coulee Region Humane Society for some furry four-legged affection and an opportunity to relax. All are licensed therapy dogs.
    • 3:30 - 5 p.m.
    • Franciscan Way at V-Hawk Court (Rain site: Hawk's Nest)
  • Popsicles and Positive Messages: Counseling Services is providing popsicles in exchange for positive messages. This activity will coincide with Pause for Paws. Write a positive message on a clean popsicle stick and participants will receive a popsicle. The messages can include positive affirmations, encouraging phrases or inspirational quotes. These will be glued onto a poster board and displayed later in the week.
    • 3:30 - 5 p.m.

  • Starlight Meditation: Join Deb Murray, psychology professor, for a guided meditation session under the stars. Mats will be provided. Individuals are encouraged to bring their own mats and/or blankets.

Tuesday, September 24 Activities
  • Farmer's Market: The environmental sustainability committee is sponsoring a farmer's market on campus. Check out local vendors and purchase goods!
    • 11 a.m. - 2 p.m.
    • Franciscan Way Circle
  • Meal Prep Class: Join the Student Dietetics Association (SDA) for a meal prepping basics class. Participants will learn tips and tricks to save money while eating healthy. Participants will enjoy a meal at the end of the class. Space is limited to the first 20 registrants. 
    • 4 - 6 p.m.
    • Nursing 284 (Food Lab)
    • Individuals may contact Emily Weiss to RSVP.
  • Smoothie Bar: SDA will make a few smoothie recipes that rec center visitors will be able to sample. Sports nutrition trivia will be included.
    • 7 - 9 p.m.

Wednesday, September 25 Activities
  • Bike to Campus: Coffee, tea and energy bits will be provided for those who use alternative transportation to campus. Free bike tune ups may be provided. Sponsored by the Student Environmental Sustainability Club.
    • 7 - 9 a.m.
    • V-Hawk Court, by the clock tower
  • Free Massages: Recreation & Leadership is sponsoring free, 10-minute massages for students. The massages are provided by Bodywork by Bea. Spots are limited; registration is required.

Thursday, September 26 Activities
  • Health Screenings & Body Composition Testing: Health Services will provide blood pressure, blood sugar and oxygen screenings as well as flu shots (rates apply). Recreation fitness staff will be providing body composition testing utilizing a bio-electrical impedence scale.
    • 11 a.m. - 1 p.m.
    • Franciscan Way at V-Hawk Court (Rain location: Hawk's Nest)
  • DIY Skincare: Students have an opportunity to make their own body butter, sugar scrub and hair oil/mask. This activity is sponsored by Recreation & Leadership.
    • 3 - 5 p.m.

Friday, September 27 Activities
  • Sunrise Yoga: A special outdoor  slow flow morning yoga class will be provided to end the week (weather permitting). 
    • 6:30 - 7:30 a.m.
    • Assisi Courtyard
    • Coffee, tea and a quick bite will be provided for participants.
